Entry room rug

So there's this blog that I love, Copy Cat Chic. I tend to have expensive taste but am a sucker for a good deal, so this is the perfect blog for me. Today she featured a bunch of darling rugs, and I've found the one I want for my entry way! Found here

So, it's been an eternity since I posted here. I went and had a baby, and she pretty much occupies my time. And I love it. She's the best. Anyway, I ran across this room on a blog I love and I thought this was a brilliant way to display children's artwork. Plus, I'm 100 percent in love with the little bed alcove.

Project: Nursery

I have 12 weeks to pull together a spectacular nursery. Sounds like a lot of time, but when you consider my two jobs and ever increasing tiredness, it makes me feel stressed like it's never going to come together. I've been on the fence a little (okay, a lot) on how I want baby girl's nursery to look. I've explored every option from gender neutral to all-out-girl. Then my mom's neighbor just re-did her girls room with the most spectacular pink wallpaper and offered me her extras ... and the nursery "theme" was settled on.

The idea is this: the wall paper on one wall with the rest of the walls in a light/blush pink. The ceiling will stay the same grey color, so I want to make it sort of a grey and pink themed, girly but classy/elegant. Like this:

One of the things I knew I wanted was a girly chandelier. I found the perfect one, and last night Jason and I (okay fine, Jason) installed it:

And yesterday I made my best find, an upholstered rocker/glider better than the one I'd been jonesing for from Pottery Barn Kids. At a price that I could not pass up (especially with the addition of the 20 percent off coupon I had!) Thank you DownEast Home!!

Stand by me

So our bed finally came, and it looks wonderful in our room! Except... we don't have nightstands or any other furniture in the room. So it's slightly bare. I've been looking high and low for nightstands I love that are in the budget and match the bed (a tall order, I know). I really love these ones pictures, does anyone know where to find ones similar? Also, I love the lamps, and have found some at Target. As soon as I have nightstands to put them on, they will be mine! AND, how adorable are those "love" pillows?

Have you ever seen such delicious rugs? Man oh man, I'm loving the new line of rugs from Amy Butler. I love what a rug can do for a room, but I'm not a fan of what they can do to a bank account :) Maybe someday, right?

The bed

I have been searching high and low for a bed that I love, was in the budget, Jason loved and would be timeless. This proved harder than I thought. I'd go into stores and they'd ask me what I was looking for in a bed and I'd tell them, "I'm not sure, but I'll know it when I see it." And guess what, today I saw it.

I think I like the shorter posts better, what do you think?

I found it just in time too, Jason and I closed on our house yesterday and will start moving in tonight. We don't officially move until the end of the month, as far as church stuff/our callings are concerned, but I'll be slowly moving our stuff in between now and then.

Mirror mirror on the wall...

I really want to put a mirror above my fireplace. Mirrors just seem to really open up a room and reflect in more light. And I'm all about openness and light. I saw this mirror in Anthropologie and fell in love.

Powder Room

I bought this hand towel for my new powder room. It's the only room in the house I have fully decorated in my mind.

Now the fun part begins. Loan applications, inspections, appraisals, down payments and other such grown up stuff. But, if all goes well, we will be home owners on July 10th.

I went up there again last night with my dad, Carlie and Jason. I wish I would have taken a picture of the view from the house. It's amazing, to die for. There had just been a rainstorm, so everything was clear and there were the most beautiful rainbows.

We're making another offer on a house today. This will be our fifth offer, and sometimes I wonder if this has became a game to me and I'll freak out if I actually end up moving. I mean, we've made four offers already, and even though two of the four were accepted, we haven't moved. Not for lack of trying or lack of desire, but because of complications on the sellers end. Anyway, here's the house:

Don't worry, it's landscaped now and the grass really makes a difference.

It's cute, very open and spacious floor plan. 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms with a fantastic unfinished basement. It's in Cedar Hills in a development called The Cottages, how cute is that?! So, wish us luck.

Focal Point

I think too often the focal point in a room is some gigantic television, and I'm not crazy about the message that sends. I'd much rather have a room like this, with one entire wall dedicated to books (and various knick knacks for fun).

The Nursery

I really love this nursery for a lot of reasons. First of all, it's so inviting and cheery with the fun yellows and blues. I love that it's gender neutral and I LOVE the yellow chair. The cute mommy that put together this nursery blogs about it here with more pictures, "how-to's" and where she got everything. Would it be wrong if I copied this in my future nursery?

Decorative Hutch

I love the idea of having a hutch to display cute plate, bowls, pitcher, etc. I really love the pattern on this one too, I think it adds a fun element without being too loud.

Both Jason and I are big into books and reading. When we got married, our biggest problem was we had too many books and not enough shelving for all of them. We now own two giant book cases, and still have books in boxes because they don't all fit. My solution to the problem? Buy more books. OK, so that didn't really solve anything because these beauties (pictured above) are still sitting in a box (minus the one I'm currently reading) but it sure feels good owning cute books.

I originally wanted these for the shelves next to the fireplace in the house in Traverse Mountain we were supposed to buy. Had it not been for the seller and his shady practices that caused lenders to run for the hills, these lovelies would be perched there now.

I really really love this chandelier, and chandeliers of similar style. But every time I show one to Jason and tell him I want those in our home, specifically our bedroom, he says "do you know you live with a boy?" Apparently my taste in lighting fixtures is a little too girly for him.

As someone who spends a lot of time behind a camera creating images for other people, I see the value in having images of my own family adorning my wall. Someday I plan to have a wall like these in a main room with nine 20x20s of my family. Color or black and white? I guess I'll have to see what works best with my home! What I love about this picture is the shape/design of the chairs a well as the color of the wall . . . so perfect. I also love the fresh flowers, someday I'd love to always have fresh flowers in my home!

Oh how I'm longing for a tub! There's nothing more relaxing than a nice, hot, long bath and living without a tub has been kinda hard on me. I especially love the shape of this tub, the color on the walls and all the windows... as long as the windows have a great view!

Introduction

People always talk about turning into their mother, and while I always thought I was more like my father, I see my mother in me more and more every day. For years, I watched her tear pictures out of magazines and put them in a white binder. She attended the Parade of Homes with me in tow for as long as I can remember. Always snapping photographs of ideas she may want to replicate in her future home, and into the binder they'd go. Now that I'm married and my husband and I are looking for our first home, I find myself scouring the Internet for my own home inspiration. Here's where I'll keep my findings.
